It's back and better than ever. That's what the Student Activities Board is saying about the Winter Student Center Spectacular. The event will take place at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2 in the Student Center.
"It's a welcome back for students from summer and Christmas breaks," said Alex Goodman, indoor activities chairperson for SAB.
Activities will range from music to murder.
Mark Niger, an international juggling champion and comedian, will be in the Worsham Theater. Singer/songwriter Judy Gorman will perform "high-intensity, Blues-rooted, original music" in the Center Theater
Those looking for more adventure can participate in the "Mysteries on Campus" in the Grand Ballroom. Three professional actors will act out a murder mystery, and the first person to determine the culprit wins a $50 prize. Spike Davis, a favorite regional comedian, will also crack some jokes.
All activities are free to UK students and offer a great way to get together with friends and have a good time, undeclared freshman Mary Reynolds said.
The Winter Student Center Spectacular is usually held earlier, it was postponed due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the Super Bowl, Goodman said.
The evening will offer other forms of entertainment, too.
Two caricature artists will draw in the popcorn lounge, and the local groove-rock band "As of Yet" will perform.
Various campus organizations will set up booths allowing opportunities for students to join. UK's own AcoustiKats will perform and a demonstration of country line dancing is also slated. A group of international students will perform folk dances from around the world.
If putting people to sleep sounds like fun, hypnotist Chris Carter's performance in the Grand Ballroom should draw a healthy crowd. Free billiards and table tennis will be offered, a video karaoke machine will be set up.
UK Food Services will be open along with the UK Bookstore.
