Porno not just for Pyros anymore

What would happen if one of your favorite Saturday morning cartoons were to somehow escape into the real world? The answer is easy. He would name himself Perry Farrell, start up a band named Porno for Pyros and storm the music world.Farrell, whose band made a stop at Bogart's in Cincinnati Tuesday, has every quality a 'toon needs. His lanky body moves like Plastic Man, his speaking voice sounds like Barney, but his intellect is something no animated character has ever had.The show started off with "Good God's://Urge!," the tempo-changing song that is also the name of the band's latest album. The song began slowly, creating a tropical atmosphere mixed with a great light show and a sold out crowd. Midway through the song, however, when the "Urge" part took over, things exploded into a an all-out frenzy.
Throughout the set, Farrell threw bouquets of flowers to the audience and danced very distinctively. It was obvious he was having fun at the show.
One of the most energetic performances was when the band performed the song "Porno for Pyros." It drove the crowd crazy, and even the most inhibited members were bopping.
There was an apathetic response, however, to "Pets," the first single the band ever released. But that didn't stop the show at all, for they then moved onto the pinnacle of the evening.
The best song of the night was the acoustic performance of "Kimberly Austin." The song was done so well it almost seemed that it was taken directly from the album. They tried to do things so accurately that they even had drummer Stephen Perkins come from behind his set to do the finger snapping (which was, of course, microphoned).
Kudos go to lead guitarist Peter Di Stefano for his incredible craftmanship of his instrument. He plays with passion, which was especially seen during "Tahitian Moon." Along with seasoned veteran Mike Watt (yes, that Mike Watt), the musical side of the band equaled Farrell's showmanship.
Lollapalooza, Jane's Addiction, now Porno for Pyros. It seems everything Farrell touches turns into gold. Let's just hope he continues to keep on touching.
