The exhibit opens on Friday, Sept. 20, with an artist reception from 5-8 p.m., coincides with the Lexington Gallery Hop, and runs through Saturday, Nov. 2.The 1991 recipient of the artist-in-residence fellowship at Bernheim Forest in Kentucky, Burkett is a master of the large-format camera and perhaps the nation's leading expert in Cibachrome printing.
His other works are being exhibited internationally in many museums.
Hawaii is the ideal subject for Burkett's rich color palette, and, in keeping with the Hawaiian theme, the gallery plans to open the show with a break from gallery tradition, with an opening reception that is as much luau as art exhibit.
