Soccer teams see action over weekend

Staff report

The UK men's soccer team split its weekend matches at the University of Central Florida Soccer Classic in Orlando, Fla.

In the team's 1-0 victory over host Central Florida Saturday, the Cats took a 2-0 lead at the 15-minute mark when striker Brian Dausman scored his sixth goal of the season. Sean Endicott clinched the UK victory with a goal at the 86-minute mark.

But the Wildcats failed in their bid for a weekend sweep, losing 2-1 to Stetson yesterday.

The game was scoreless at halftime, but Stetson's Tom Steely managed to score two goals in a five-minute span at the beginning of the second half.

Dausman scored at the 69:57 mark on a direct kick from 75 yards, accounting for UK's only goal. The Wildcats had 17 shots on goal to Stetson's nine.

UK goalie Chris West had five saves for the Wildcats in the loss.

The Cats' record stands at 9-2 after weekend play.

Note:

  • The women's team also split, losing 2-0 to Wisconsin on Friday before defeating Wisconsin-Milwaukee 1-0 yesterday.

In the victory, Kim LaBelle scored with just under three minutes remaining and freshman goalkeeper Carrie Kuhnell, in just her second collegiate start, recorded her first shutout.

The Cats, ranked No. 23 by Soccer News, went to 6-4 after weekend competition.
